Native Memphian Joshua Andrew Cosby writes and sings songs that take the simple pleasures of life, love, family, and friends, and turn them over onto their underbelly, exposing what’s there to a pure and gentle light that he is uniquely gifted to shine. He has been doing so for upwards of 10 years as a founding member of Star & Micey, and more recently, his dog Black Bettie and her fierce, whimsical independence inspired him to hunker down and make his first proper solo record. Spurred on by friends and collaborators across the community, his faith swelled that this new collection of songs could be something worth sharing. The album includes a track with a Nintendo 8-bit element, one about Cosby’s first real friendships and adventures growing up in a trailer park in the Raleigh area of Memphis, one told from the perspective of an unnamed female narrator, and the album's title track, “Black Bettie” — Black Bettie is out later this year, and, in anticipation of its release, Cosby will be performing around Memphis throughout the Summer, and will embark upon a house show tour in the Fall. - Connor Crawford
